SHIFTING TERRAIN

Richard Zaloudek & Chris Gentle
9 May - 31 May

Shifting Terrain brings together the work of two Sydney-based artists, Chris Gentle and Richard Zaloudek. Through distinct material and pictorial approaches, both artists move beyond landscape as representation, exploring memory, process, emotion, and transformation. Gentle’s abstract paintings draw on the emotional resonance of the Australian environment, while Zaloudek’s practice emerges through earth, weathering, decay, and material change.

Across painting and materially driven work, the exhibition considers how environments carry traces of time, fragility, and renewal. Gentle’s atmospheric forms evoke landscape as moments held in memory and emotion, while Zaloudek’s surfaces register erosion, accumulation, and growth. Rather than presenting landscape as fixed or singular, Shifting Terrain approaches it as layered, unstable, and continually evolving.

The exhibition invites viewers to consider differing approaches to landscape and material practice. Here, landscape becomes both image and process: something remembered, inhabited, and transformed over time.
